Kelvin Smith has 20 years of work experience as a senior pastor / social worker in the south bay area and several cities on the peninsula . He is certified in anger management, stress relief techniques and has multiple subject credentialed. He has 20 years in serving kids with multiple barriers.
For more than twenty years, Kelvin has accompanied “at-risk” youth and young adults in San Jose, East Palo Alto, Redwood City and Menlo Park. He provides strategic influence for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated youth, and the critical programs designed to serve them. He teaches life skills classes and builds relationships inside Hill Crest Juvenile Hall .
Kelvin also works with local community leaders to help them re-shape programs that serve youth who are reentering their neighborhoods. Mr. Smith’s expertise in teaching, relationship-building and leadership development makes him an essential partner in the Re-entry Coalition.
Kelvin Smith, is an active member of the Hill-Crest chaplaincy outreach ministries that coordinates efforts of a group of youth-serving organizations to more effectively provide prevention and intervention programs – all designed to mentor young people who want a fresh start at a future of meaning and purpose.
Sherrie Smith has been working for Safeway for 30 years and she graduated from San Jose Christian College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business. Before A Brighter Day’s inception Sherrie placed one youth at Safeway who was a part of the Cease Fire Program of East Palo Alto Ca
Sherrie and Kelvin realized the importance of obtaining employment and how it helped this youth stay out of trouble. Sherrie has been operating as the case manager and works as the liaison between A Brighter Day and the district hiring coordinator at Safeway Inc. As the case manager Sherrie makes sure the youth have the proper dress attire, and bus passes. She contacts the youth weekly or as needed and provides ongoing support for the youth. Sherrie is actively seeking other companies to offer a variety of job placement for the youth.
